Rant

Dear World,

"Amber" is not the same name as "Amanda." They are not even related; they merely coincidentally have the same first 2 letters. Just like Steven/Stanley, Daniel/David, Jason/Jared/James, etc. - also all different names, also not interchangeable.

I do not mind being called any name if you are confused. But once you have learned that my name is Amber, please do not call me Amanda.

Sincerely,

AmBER

(I'm sure all Amandas out there would agree.)

I get this all the time, too. People call me "Stan" or "Dan" or "Matt" purely because all they hear is the "a" sound. It's infuriating.

Man, what do you have against the name Amanda?!?!? JK! I used to get called Anna all the time when I would answer the phone at work. Drove me crazy. Anna, Savannah, etc. Obviously they weren't listening!

People read that my full name is Elizabeth and they call me Liz. Ew. I am NOT Liz. My name is Beth. I've been Beth since I was six and I will be Beth until I die.

Why don't people ever call you Ambrose? It's (1) closer to Amber, or at least shares more letters, and (2) totally funky.

I give you permission to call me Brecken if I can call you Ambrose. :)

We have gotten "Emily" rather than "Emma" quite a lot. Two different names, two different root meanings. It drives Emma crazy.

If it makes you feel any better I get called Sarah quite often but that's just because people don't care to know which child I am ... and it ages me by 10 years as well =D

I also answer to James. I think every substitute I ever had thought my name was a typo and jumped to the erroneous conclusion that I was a male. I should have let them sweat it out.
