Pickled Greens

Last night I counted 10 jars of pickled green foods in our fridge. And yes, all of them are desirable and in the process of being eaten.

Can anyone beat that?

That is the best post ever! Sadly, I have had no cravings during pregnancy so I can't beat you there. I have just eaten a whole bunch... and it is showing :)... I love food. Yum! I didn't know there were that many different kinds of pickled anything in a grocery store.

I'd be curious if you listed what those pickled items are, because I also had no idea there could be so many pickled green items.

We have nothing pickled in our fridge of any color. Before leaving California I think we did have capers, which I believe are technically pickled, but I never touched them. The only thing I will eat pickled AT ALL is pickled ginger when eating sushi.

Is this from pregnancy cravings or just because you happen to really love pickled greens?

Here's the official list, in order of fridge position (top down and out to door):

Polish sauerkraut (kind of a pale green, but still green)
Vlasic hamburger dill ovals
Garlic green olives
Vlasic Snack'ems tiny dills
Manzanilla olives, pimento stuffed
Kosher whole dills
Capote capers
Non-pareil capers
Mixed marinated olives
Imported grape leaves in vinegar brine

The only ones I can really attribute to cravings are the tiny dills and the garlic olives, although I have also bought these while un-pregnant. The rest I will attribute to our taste for Mediterranean and Slavic food. Steven loves pickles, I love green olives, and we both enjoy both.

I knew capers had to be in there somewhere. Yum yum yummy. What are the grape leaves for?

The grape leaves are for making dolmas! Yummy!
